THE OWL

(06/11/15)
OWL: Long became known as ominous bird, and partly due to his strange appearance. It is believed that she announce misfortunes, and that his flight over the house of the sick is a sign of death. To ward off bad omen many popular beliefs were fed. One recommends making a fire with pepper and vinegar so that it burns your tongue. If it emits an eerie sound, you must take off her clothes, turn it inside out and place it again. Interestingly, in the distant past mysticism about this bird was related to virtues.
In ancient Greece, it was considered a sacred bird, and represented the goddess Athena (the courage and wisdom) and also the gift of clairvoyance of soothsayers. Biological factors helped owl to gain these powers, such as the structure of their feathers that allows the silent flight and the presence of facial disks that capture noise. In addition, its asymmetrical ears (one focuses on the sounds coming from below, the other, the top) let hunt their prey with their eyes closed; able to see in the dark and turning the neck up to 270 degrees.
But it fell out of favor, and for the Aztecs it has come to symbolize "Avatar", the god of the underworld, night, rain and storms. In Celtic culture was the witch of the night; for Native Americans the deity of death, guardian of the cemeteries. Also known as "ripping shroud" because the flight down and heavy, and the noise of their wings, like a cloth being abruptly torn.
But does the Bible say about the owl? She is referred to as "owl" and is among birds considered unclean for food because it is a bird of prey (Leviticus 11:16), feeding on rodents, insects and small birds. The psalmist in his lonely affliction felt like "the owl" [owl] the desolate places (Ps 102: 6). From the looks of the bird; solitary, nocturnal, sad chirp, the Bible associates the desolation of Edom (Isaiah 34:11); and also predicted that the abandoned houses in the ruins of Babylon, fill up would satyrs [owl plural (Isaiah 13:21)].
But there is nothing in the Bible that identify the owl as ominous bird. It is one of God's creatures and has been a boon to other creatures for their work in order to maintain the ecological balance, ending the rodents that would multiply so much that harm the man himself.
One of the things that identifies the people of God as separate from people is that we do not believe in any kind of superstition or bring beliefs. "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, in the shadow of the Almighty. He [Jehovah] shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust, not fear fright night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that walketh in darkness "(Ps 91).
So, to see one of these creatures flying at night on your roof, or with your sad and melodious song rather fear you, give glories to God who made them all wisely and planned every detail so that the earth was a nice home for the human family. Though sin and evil men to have damaged, God promises to "destroy those who destroy the earth" (Rev. 11:18); and promised new heavens and new earth where the saved will live safely (Rev. 21); because the "heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the earth He has given to the sons of men to dwell on it it forever (Ps 115: 16; 37:29).
